Sussex day

Sussex day

Sun, 16 Jun 2019 12:00

Sussex Day is the county day for the county of Sussex and is celebrated on 16 June each year to celebrate the rich heritage and culture of the county.

This year, it is to be celebrated from 12-4 pm on Rogate recreation ground and will also be the local "Newcomers and community day" with stalls and events from lots of local clubs and societies - including our new 3-village community land trust START (www.start-ct.org.uk) which will be launching its membership drive at the event. Click on the poster below for more details

The date was chosen because it is St Richard's Day, the anniversary of the translation of the body of the saint (Bishop of Chichester from 1245 until his death in 1253) from its original burial place in the nave to an elaborate shrine in Chichester Cathedral on 16 June 1276.
